COMMUNITY ACTION,
GLOBAL IMPACT!

Launched in 1992, the Global Environment Facility Small Grants Programme, implemented by United Nations Development Programme has been supporting community action with a global impact. Through providing technical and financial assistance, civil society organisations and communities are given the opportunity to implement projects in the areas ofclimate change, biodiversity, sustainable forest management, land degradation, international waters, and persistent organic pollutants (POPs)/chemicals. These community-based projects must meet environmental objectives while at the same time also supporting poverty reduction and local empowerment objectives.

Testimonials:

  • The SGP intervention has enabled our Organic farmers group to focus on and implement areas of capacity building, product awareness and group development that we have previously been unable to undertake. Most Civil Society Organisations members are self employed and find it difficult to take sufficient time away from income generation, and create additional funds to really brand, take in training or develop the capacity to expand our products or services. With the assistance of SGP these necessary steps can be taken.
